The Luxury of Llama
Llama fiber is luxuriously soft, remarkably light and toasty warm. Like alpaca, angora, mohair and cashmere, llama fiber is a specialty fiber. Used for spinning, felting, knitting and weaving, it can also be blended imaginatively with other fibers.
Because llamas do not produce lanolin (as sheep do), their fiber has a silky hand. Colors range from white to black, with shades of grey, beige, brown or red. Llamas can be solid, spotted or pintos. This wide array of colors is unique to llamas and a boon to handspinners. Prepared llama fiber is odorless, greaseless and light – a spinners delight!
Producing fiber is very important to us at Northern Vermont Llama Co. All our llamas have summer haircuts, and their fleece is in demand. We offer professional shearing services to llama and alpaca owners. We have fleeces for sale, processed fiber and various items handmade from this wonderfully warm, silky fiber.
